TINY CARBON

Tiny-Size Your Carbon Footprint

In this time of climate crisis, the need for innovative, human-centered solutions is more important than ever. By unifying friendship, community action, reforestation, and small-scale farm projects, we aim to democratize climate action making it accessible for everyone.

Tiny Carbon

Tiny Carbon works with Honduran forestry specialists, coffee farmers and their associations, developing reforestation sites and native-species tree nurseries.

Work continues, and we look forward to more news and updates throughout 2025 and in coming years.

We are planting Sweetgum, Pine, Mahogany, Cedrela, Cordia, and more, capturing CO2 from the air and creating future wealth for families, in better soils and eventually good, serviceable timber.

This project is designed to fit with both Tiny Footprint Coffee’s carbon-negative brand and over 15 years of practice, and is also supported by Cima Café, our business partner and Honduran connection.

What We Do

With coffee growers in three regions of Honduras we are planting trees to protect water sources in communities, improve soils, and support biodiversity. In 2022 we planted 5,000 trees on three sites, and in 2024 we began three native-species tree nurseries, to supply new reforestation projects with coffee grower associations. Our nursery sites are directly owned and operated by local farmers, with technical leadership from Forestry Engineer Belkis Ramírez.

  • With Jorge Molina we are growing over 4,000 seedlings at his full-time coffee tree nursery.

  • With sisters Luja and Issel Medina we’ve begun a more ambitious nursery which will deliver native species trees to coffee farmers in their region.

  • In Western Honduras, near to the border with El Salvador, Selín Recinos is partnered with his neighbor to produce trees including several Central American pines, like Pinus maximinoi.

We also consult with Minnesota companies, helping them think of emissions mitigation strategies, calculate their emissions footprints, and learn about actions they can take to become climate-smart, carbon-neutral, and even carbon-negative.

In the last handful of years, the “carbon markets” have taken a beating in both reputation and prices. Since then, we’ve evolved to focus on the human element, consolidating our team to get ready for better days to come.

Minnesotans and Latin Americans come together to create economic opportunity with social and carbon impacts in the Anthropocene, man’s epoch of change.
